But now, in cities like Cologne and Frankfurt, they’ve become 5G connectivity hubs.



Here mobile radio transmitters are built into the lighting masts of streetlights, placing antennas atop the poles to boost mobile coverage. These "smart streetlights" offer ultra-fast internet that can power autonomous vehicles and public safety networks.


In Cologne, it's been a boon to football fans as this setup supports high data traffic, especially during major events like the European Football Championship.
