Innovation: Now and Then

A song was recorded in the 1970’s, using only a small portable tape recorder.

It was simple. Just vocals and a piano. But it was beautiful.

That cassette stayed in a drawer waiting for its moment to shine.

The song?

“Now and Then” written by John Lennon.

Now, decades later, it has become the Beatles’ final masterpiece—a song that once again brought John, Paul, George, and Ringo together.

Thanks to AI-powered technology developed by filmmaker Peter Jackson, Lennon’s cassette recording was separated into clear, isolated tracks, unveiling his voice in pristine quality.

This allowed the surviving Beatles to layer on their instruments, mixing each part to complete the song as a Beatles record.

🎸Paul McCartney added his bass.

🥁Ringo Starr put on the drums.

🎸A slide guitar solo inspired by George Harrison’s style, was included.

🎻 And finally,  orchestral strings brought the piece to life.

In November 2023, “Now and Then” was released, a final work of art by the Beatles, and AI.

It’s been nominated for 2 Grammys.

This is innovation—taking something that’s been forgotten but with hidden potential, and rethinking it.

Which brings me to a question:What has been waiting for the right moment and the right tech to shine?

(You probably want to listen to the song now! Here it is.)
