In the world of trucking, a brand-new role is emerging: the desk-bound truck driver.
Tiffany Heathcott has landed that very job, controlling a fleet of 10 semi-autonomous electric trucks from a distance.
These trucks by Swedish startup Einride, operate at speeds of up to 50mph and cover distances between 80 to 110 miles. Called ‘Pods’, the trucks operate autonomously but keep a human in the loop to take over if they encounter an obstacle. They're expected to produce a 30% cost reduction in road freight cost AND address the growing truck driver shortage.
GE Appliances are already using them in Tennessee, while Heineken beverages use them to haul beverages between Germany and the Netherlands.
Innovation doesn't have to start from scratch. It can simply mean reimagining how to enhance the old.
What “old” problems exist in your business that could be reimagined with a tech-enhanced approach?
