Did You Know? A Hotel Turning Sunlight Into Energy

Updated: Dec 17, 2024

Imagine a window that not only lets you see outside, but also powers the lights inside.

The Holiday Inn Express in New Mexico has windows that do exactly that.

In a pilot phase, the hotel has installed quantum dot solar windows that convert captured sunlight into electricity.

The quantum dots - nano-sized particles that are layered between 2 panes of glass - absorb sunlight and emit it as invisible infrared light, which is directed to the edge of the window where solar cells convert it into electricity.

The result? A clear view through a window that also generates power.

By adding these super absorbers to regular window panes, an entire building facade can be transformed into a power generator. For example, if the One World Trade Center in New York were fitted with these innovative windows, it could generate enough electricity to power 350 apartments.

Reimagining existing structures and adding more value with the help of tech. That's good re-thinking.

What are you working on right now? Can a good AI assistant help you to reimagine it and get better results?
